AUDITION NOTICE – Spitfire Grill

Lakeside Players announces auditions for the musical “The Spitfire Grill,” by James Valcq and Fred Alley, will be held Sunday, July 12, at 3:00 and Monday, July 13, at 7:00, at the Rhode Center for the Arts, 514 56^th Street, Kenosha, Wisconsin.  Callbacks, as needed, may be held on Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15, at 7:00. Performances will be September 11 through 26, Friday through Sunday.

 Persons auditioning are asked to prepare a song.  It need not be from the show.  An accompanist will be provided.  The audition will also consist of cold readings from the script.

 Parts include:  4 women (two sopranos age 20 to 35 and two mezzos/altos, one age 60+, one 25+) and 2 men (one high baritone/tenor age 30-45, one tenor age 25-35).

 Plot synopsis:

 A feisty parolee follows her dreams, based on a page from an old travel book, to a small town in Wisconsin and finds a place for herself working at Hannah’s Spitfire Grill. It is for sale but there are no takers for the only eatery in the depressed town, so newcomer Percy suggests to Hannah that she raffle it off. Entry fees are one hundred dollars and the best essay on why you want the grill wins. Soon, mail is arriving by the wheelbarrow full and things are definitely cookin’ at the Spitfire Grill.  A charming show about rediscovery, renewal, and redemption, “The Spitfire Grill” is a heartwarming musical with characters you’ll feel you know, and is a theatrical event you’ll want to experience more than once.
